I recently had a conversation about the importance of teaching respect in schools. While I agree that respect matters, I don’t believe it addresses the root of the issue on its own.

When students are taught empathy and compassion—first for themselves, and then for others—mutual respect develops naturally. Without those foundational skills, “respect” can become a demand rather than a shared value.

Our Mindful Education in the Schools program supports this work by helping students build self-awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, and connection—skills that strengthen classrooms and school communities as a whole.

2025 was filled with HUGE changes for Safe Harbor Yoga. True to its promise, the Year of the Snake made us shed things that no longer serve or support us, revealing the truths beneath- even if they were hard to look at.

Spend some time reflecting on your year if you havent yet and think about what you hope for this day in 2027. Relive the successes, challenges and give yourself grace through it all.

2026 promises intention, growth and purpose. Time will tell, of course. 🙂

The picture accompanying this post is of two things at different times this year a friend and client gave me simply because they were thinking of me. 💜 Like, made time in their day to see and talk with me. Even waited outside the studio for me to arrive!!

Sometimes life is just plain old hard. But there are people who try to do good things despite the hard moments. And I, for one, strive to be the kind of person my friend was today.
