How to Be a Good Egg

Schools are starting to come to a close. Summer fever is setting in for students…and teachers…and maybe some parents too. The weather is starting to shine its best side, but also showing its most turbulent at times.

This reflects us too, doesn't it?

Sometimes, when we feel at the top of our game, we also show our not-so-great side... like cracks in a shell. And with summer around the corner and all the added wonderful things that come with it- kids home, pool time, sports schedules, potential vacations, and work, just to name a few- we sometimes get lost in the juggle of keeping it all afloat.

This is also the story we’re discussing at our upcoming Children’s Library event on May 24th at the Storm Lake Public Library.  Jory John’s The Good Egg discusses this same ideal- trying to be good at all the things all the time- and seeing the personal stress it has on the body, or the shell in his case.

Now, in the book, the Good Egg, takes a trip of solitude…good for him…but many of us don’t have that luxury or don’t want to do it that way.

So how can we help our shell when we see the cracks without having to give so much up?

This is where I challenge you to try yoga.  I know, I know…you’re probably thinking “I’m not that flexible” or “I’m too busy” or “I can’t afford the classes”

But here’s the thing: yoga doesn’t have to be a time-intensive experience.  First, it’s about finding what works for your body and mind.

Is it movement? Great! Try doing 3-5 poses in a row with only 1-2 breaths in each one.

Is it a connection to breath? Awesome! Try out the video below!

Anchor Breath- a great way to begin practicing the pause in your life too!

Is it finding space and solitude away from others? Cool! Each of these things can be done in your car before heading into the chaos of the house.

Is it getting together with friends to try something new or just hang out? Wonderful! I can help with that too (and they might need it just as badly as you do)! Our session sizes are smaller currently—perfect for small friend groups! Just contact me through www.stormlakesafeharboryoga.com to set up a private session or to join a current class. If the space intended can’t accommodate the number, we’ll find a better space. Don’t be afraid to ask for a themed event, either! I love connecting creativity with yoga practice. 🙂

And if it’s something else entirely from the items listed above, that’s okay too.  As much as I would love to serve you, dear reader, my ultimate goal is to help find what works...for YOU—even if it’s not at Safe Harbor Yoga.

Wishing you peace in the mind, the heart, and each day moving forward,

Kayla
