Reconnect, Recharge, Reclaim: Why Self-Care Isn't a Luxury—It's a Lifeline

How many times have you thought, "I can’t seem to catch up”, or “I just need a moment to myself” only to have the moments swallowed up by the next thing on the list, the loved one, or the obligation?
As a person born and raised in the midwest farmland, the importance of “getting things done” is not lost on me. Oftentimes, we all keep a list- whether physical, mental, or both. The list is never-ending and, if you’re like me, it can feel like 2 or more things get added just when you scratch off one.

That’s why people discuss self-care so much. But the term self-care has become toxic. It’s often the treat we give ourselves- the convenient or impulsive purchase, the “fancy coffee”, the hair, the nails, the newest tech, game or even gaming system. And while self-care can include those things, if not used intentionally and purposefully, it can easily become avoidance.
As a millennial, finding that work-life balance is important to me. If I am only given one life to live, I’d like to make it the best life I can. But in order to do that, I have to make and take time for self-care too. And I’ll be honest: self-care is work.
When Life is Demanding, Time Becomes Revolutionary
Instead of pining, searching and purchasing, what you might truly need is a reset—a guided, intentional space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with yourself. Time to invest in what you want to give to those you love as well as yourself.
Enter: The Pink & Twine Yoga Retreat
The idea to host a local destination retreat came from the practice of gratitude for where I grew up and where I consider my “forever home”. And to arrive at that conclusion, I had to do a lot of reflection, journaling, self-discovery and acceptance for what is instead of pining for what isn’t- something intrinsically woven into the retreat itself.
And I’m not perfect- no one is meant to be. But that’s also the beauty of an opportunity like this- being with like-minded people ready to try. It’s about presence. It’s about showing up exactly as you are, and leaving feeling a little more like yourself again.
